Fabulous Friday Free Class and Service Project

We hope you are all working up those crafting skills as we gear up for Fabulous Friday in just 10 days.  If you haven't turned your money in for your projects (yes there are still a few of you), please do so on Sunday or I will be lovingly hunting you down :)

Now that we have that out of the way....

We are excited to announce the free class that will be available.  It will be a set (4) of tile drink coasters for each person that signs up (limit 1 set per person).  You can see a similar project here.  The paper will be different but this will give you an idea of what they will look like.  If you have paper that you love and would like to use, feel free to bring it as well.

We will also have a fantastic service project lined up.  Did you know that when a child is taken from their home due to neglect and abuse, Foster Care Workers bring a large garbage bag for the child to put their pillow, clothes, blanket into? Austin Harding wants to change this and give as many kids in Foster Care their own luggage. To help make it theirs – he needs your help to make personalized luggage tags for each luggage he collects. The worker would put their names on it – we just need to make them.   Bring your girl and boy scrapbook supplies (paper, stickers, scissors, ribbon, etc) and come help make luggage tags that will be used on new and slightly used medium to large suitcases (being collected by Austin Harding for his Eagle Project). If you don’t have scrapbook supplies, we still need your help creating and putting them together. It will be fun to work together for such a great cause.  We would like to encourage the Young Women to come and participate if they would like.

Please follow this link to sign up for both projects.  If you have signed up to complete other projects that night, don't let that hold you back.  Either one of these can be done in between other projects you have signed up for.

Lastly, we would like to invite you to each bring a treat or snack to share.  If it's something you love and want to share the recipe, bring that too and we will compile them for everyone on the blog.  Feel free to email or call me with any questions.  We can't wait to spend the night chatting, crafting, snacking and getting to know you!

See you soon!

Fabulous Friday 2012

It's time once again for the highly anticipated Fabulous Friday activity.  We always have such a great time chatting, eating, learning and crafting.  Who wouldn't want to come?

The activity will be held on Friday, October 26th from 6-9pm.

The items will be displayed each Sunday beginning September 9th through October 7th when all money will be due.  We will be offering online signups along with signups at church each Sunday (we will keep the two synced up).  In order to sign up online, please follow this link.  Each project has its own page along the bottom of the document.  Simply click the project page and enter your information.  Remember, you can always use the signup sheets at church each Sunday if you prefer.

All money will be due by Sunday, October 7th and needs to be turned into the ward using a tithing envelope.  Please write "Fabulous Friday" in the "Other" section so that they know it's for your projects.  We realize that October 7th is General Conference so feel free to pay before then (in fact, we beg you!).

This year we will be offering 2 free classes.  Those details will be posted soon.

Book of Mormon quilt blocks are all online

For those of you that are looking for the rest of the Book of Mormon quilt block patterns, they have been posted on the blog: http://highland1stwardrs.blogspot.com/p/book-of-mormon-quilt-pages.html

I would love to see some of the finished quilts.  If you have finished your quilt and would like to share a picture on the blog, please email one to me at highland1stward@gmail.com.  Maybe this will help those of us that need some motivation (I'm raising my hand).

For those of us that just haven't found the time to finish or lack motivation, we will be holding a few more make-up classes.  The next one will be on Tuesday March 15th at 7pm.  It will be held at Tamara S's home.

Helping in the Vineyard

Did you know that there is a church website with online service opportunities?  There are several opportunities listed now and they say that the list will change so make sure you check back often.  This is a great way to help get media ready to share with the world.  Check it out here: http://vineyard.lds.org/

Upcoming Relief Society Meetings

We are excited about our upcoming Relief Society Meetings.  Our next one will be on Tuesday February 1st at 7pm in the Relief Society room.  We have invited 2 instructors from Love and Logic to come and teach us some effective parenting skills.  You can learn more about Love and Logic on their website: http://www.loveandlogic.com/.  The Young Women have graciously agreed to serve by providing child care in your home that evening.  We will be publishing a list of available Young Women on Sunday January 26th.

Our next activity will be on Tuesday March 1st beginning at 6:30 pm.  We will be celebrating the Relief Society heritage and have a fun program planned.  We will also be having dinner.  Look for sign ups to be sent around beginning on Sunday February 13th.

We hope to see you at both of these activities!
